the earth & the Oxford hotel, where luxury meets sustainability reservations
These days, everyone seems to be "going green." But what does that really mean? At The Oxford Hotel in Bend, Oregon, going green means going beyond the normal standards. From the sustainable building materials we used to create our one-of-a-kind boutique hotel to our long list of environmentally friendly operations practices, we're thoroughly committed to reducing our carbon footprint and ensuring our hotel is as kind to the earth as it is to our guests. In doing so, we're expanding the notion of what a green hotel can really be.
What a "Green Hotel" Really Means
A green, earth-friendly hotel can be luxurious. It can be beautiful. It can provide all the thoughtful amenities and generous details you expect from a boutique hotel while remaining dedicated to rigorous eco-friendly practices designed to keep our planet healthy for ourselves and for generations to come. These practices permeate every aspect of our operations. We're proud of this commitment.
Keeping Our Commitment to the Earth
We feel strongly that our efforts, and those of our guests, help in preserving and protecting the environment in which we live, while still offering a sophisticated and fun experience for everyone who stays with us.
What We're Doing to Minimize Our Environmental Impact
The hotel runs on 100% renewable energy through Pacific Power's Blue Sky Program.
Compact fluorescent bulbs are used throughout the hotel.
We use only natural mattresses, made from a solid core Talalay latex atop a natural BiOH soy foam base. This latex and soy foam combination provides contouring comfort with underlying ergonomic support. The hypoallergenic wool lining creates an insulating layer designed to regulate a comfortable temperature while providing an allergen-free sleep. Covered in a soft cotton and bamboo blend knit, this mattress is the foundation for a dream-come-true kind of sleep.
You'll get to choose from a pillow menu! Your selection features a wide variety of pillows perfect for your style of sleep, including comfort foam pillows made completely of 100% Eco-Smart Cluster fiberfill, pillows made from recycled PET bottles, all-natural fiber pillows and many more eco-friendly options.
Our organic amenities are made locally in Bend and are regularly delivered in refillable 12-ounce pump bottles—eliminating tens of thousands of small bottles from the landfill every year.
Our housekeeping cleaning products are non-chemical based. We use an electrolyzed water process that thoroughly sanitizes your room without leaving a residue of harmful odors.
Take part in our in-room recycling program. We encourage all of our guests to participate in our mission and recycle whatever they can in their individual rooms.
Our water conservation measures include dual flushing toilets and low-flow bath fixtures throughout the entire property—as well as the provision of waterless urinals in our public bathrooms.
We keep you comfortable with energy-efficient heating and cooling systems designed to customize temperature in each hotel room; provide superior air quality inside the building by circulating large amounts of outside air into the guestrooms; and employ energy recovery technology that recoups 81% of its heat from the exiting stale air. The system also controls the moisture content in the air.
Our mechanical system, one of the most energy efficient mechanical systems available today, uses high efficiency water source heat pumps and 90% efficient heaters to heat domestic water while incorporating a separate 90%-plus boiler to heat water with a loop-styled pump during cold weather.
